1 teaspoon vanilla extract
¼ cup honey
¼ cup unsalted butter
½ cup almonds, crushed

Directions

In a saucepan, bring milk to boil over a medium heat. Once boiled, reduce heat to low. Slowly add the polenta into the boiling milk, stirring gently to avoid lumps. When all the polenta has been added, add the butter. Mix well, and cook for 1 minute. Turn heat off and add the vanilla. Place hot polenta in bowls. Top with honey and almonds, or whisk in cheese, instead of honey and almonds. Serve with your favorite hot drink.

Ideas to Choose the Right One For Your Occasion-Cocktail Dresses

Ideas to Choose the Right One For Your Occasion-Cocktail Dresses

Cocktail dresses or cocktail gowns usually display shorter lengths than normal gowns, and are normally worn during informal cocktail parties. This is the most famous and best thing to wear when attending events such as a semi-formal event, a prom, and several other occasions. Even though they look chic and casual, cocktail dresses are also ideal to wear on more formal occasions. They come in a huge variety of styles, designs, shapes and lengths. However, the most popular amongst all cocktail dresses would be the one known as “little black dress.”

You should familiarize yourself with the varying lengths of cocktail dresses that are commercially available. Their lengths vary depending on the current fashion trends and wardrobe acceptability of a certain year. While the common types of them would stop above the knee, there are also types that would run low, down to 2 inches above the ankle. The ones that end above the knee are generally known as tea-length dresses, while the ones that reach the ankle are known as the “ballerina length” type of cocktail dress, and is commonly associated with an evening gown. Nowadays, and due to the progress in fashion, cocktail dresses will come in different and beautiful arrays of material from silk and satin, to chiffon finishing.

As there are several people who are invited to occasions and never have any idea what to wear, there would be an increase of fear for over and under dressing. However, you need not worry, because there are several clues that can help you when you are confused about what to wear to these important occasions. When you receive an invitation through e-mail or over the phone, chances are that you are expected to dress casually on said events. However, when an invitation arrives by mail, then there is a good chance that you will have to wear a cocktail dress.

There are also several guidelines to follow when wearing a cocktail dress. When it is a cocktail party, you should avoid wearing a sequined gown, as they are too formal for such an event. The best would be cocktail dresses that stop above the knee. The most popular choice of materials would be satin and silk. During summer, wear dresses that have pastel colors like light pink, sky blue, yellow, and pale green. Floral prints on cocktail dresses are also ideal during this season.

Ten Best Gift Ideas for Men

Gift ideas for men are difficult to come up with simply because no two men are alike. Okay okay, some women might beg to disagree, but that’s another story. One way to go about coming up with good gift ideas is to consider what type of man he is. Let’s break this down into several basic personality types, and see if we can find one great gift idea for each type of man.

Artistic men are creative, impulsive, sensitive and visionary. They appreciate beauty, unstructured activities and variety. They enjoy interesting and unusual people, sights, textures and sounds. They solve problems by creating something new, and prefer to work in unstructured situations using their creativity and imagination. Gift ideas can range from musical instruments, artistic versions of useful things such as the melting alarm clock, to a vinyl turntable radio. My pick for the best gift is the lomographic camera, an old style still film camera whose purpose is not to get the perfect picture, but to get an artful and evocative picture that says something about the photographer.

There really isn’t a so-called athletic personality, but there are people who love all things sports, either engaging in sports themselves or following sports in the media. And there are those who are simply driven to physically excel. Some gift ideas can range from funny golfing accessories and a football helmet snack tray, to all style of sports magazines. My pick for the best gift is the extendable tai chi sword. It can just as easily be used at Kung Fu practice as displayed on one’s rec room wall.

We all know the brainy personality. They range from very techno-savvy geeks to introspective bookworms. They tend to be logical and on a constant quest for knowledge. They are practical and unsentimental in their approach to problem solving. Abstract, theoretical and technically adept, they are naturally inventive. Gift ideas range from gadgets like the karaoke for iPod, unique chess boards like the LED glow chess set, to all variety of fascinating reads like “Top Shelf Forensics.” My pick for the best gift is the Rubik’s TouchCube, which uses a motion-detecting accelerometer to allow players to slide the cube with a simple swipe of their fingers to mimic the moves of the original Cube.

]]>

For many people, hiking, canoeing, mountain biking and kayaking are activities they’re only lucky enough to enjoy on vacation. But for a few, adventure sports are a regular and important part of their lives. These people range from weekend warriors to career outdoor experts. They love all aspects of the out of doors, including the backyard garden. Gift ideas range from camping equipment and portable hammocks, to hydration packs and survivors books. My pick is the “Fix it in Foil” book which provides recipes for fixing almost any kind of food with just a campfire and a roll of aluminum foil.

The Achiever type person is always on the go. They are optimistic, confident, industrious, efficient, energetic, practical, and a self-starter. They are able to recover quickly from any setbacks and to charge ahead to the next challenge. The Achiever likes to stay informed and they are very good at motivating people. Gift ideas may include cuff links, desktop accessories like a fine wood pen set, and day planners. My pick for the best gift is the Sleepsonic stereo sleeper pillow. This little beauty can be used to help the stressed out workaholic sleep more soundly or simply to relax and it can be used for watching TV while one’s spouse sleeps. A gift that has multiple uses is great for that person whose interests you may know know very well.

The trendy person prefers the latest, most up-to-date clothes, accessories and products available. Important to them are the present and what’s “in” now. Their style is influenced by celebrity fashion, magazines, and the actions and belongings of important people. They know how to have fun with fashion, and are a true “fashionista.” Gift ideas start with anything beginning with a small “i,” like a speaker system for the iPhone, cologne such as Hummer H2, and any clothing that is trending like a harris tweed newsboy cap. My favorite gift is the summer style fedora crusher hat – oozing pure style.

The sociable person is popular and full of energy. They are reliable, well organized and helpful. At work and in friendships, they are loyal, committed and always there when needed. They find it easy to make friends due to their open, warm manner and they have a large circle of friends. In love, they are faithful and attentive and care for their loved ones with a great deal of imagination and sensitivity. Gift ideas can include social games such as a Table Topics set, stemless martini glasses with chiller bowls, and party books like “101 Sangrias and Pitcher Drinks.” My pick for the best is LiteCubes LED ice cubes. These things light up a party and and just plain COOL.

The dictionary describes an aficionado as “A person who is very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about an activity, subject, or pastime.” So the connoisseur type of person is someone who has a passion for any of these and the commitment to pursuing their passion without fail. Some gift ideas might include a book about cigars, a raw gourmet DVD set, a classic symphony CD, and a hand painted oil tapestry. My pick is actually two picks, because I just couldn’t decide. iGourmet’s 4 cheese sampler: Malagon with Rosemary, Dorothea, Camembert & White Stilton with Mango-Ginger. And the Alaska Smokehouse Mt. Seattle gift basket. I challenge you to find one person whose mouth doesn’t water at the sight of a Pepper Garlic Smoked Salmon Fillet.

We all have a hobbyist in our family. They pursue an activity in their spare time for pleasure. They love to work with their hands creating something wonderful, and the process of creating is just as important as the result. Gift ideas may include custom garage signs for the weekend mechanic, the Do It Yourself Manual for the handyman, and even something so uncommon as a metal detector kit. My pick for the best gift is the bracket clock hardware kit, a classic buildable cabinet clock designed in 17th century England. Both process and result yield nothing but fascination.

Ideas For Doing Scrapbooking – Heritage Recipe Albums

Certain foods may remind us of Thanksgiving at Grandma’s, or goody baskets received at Christmas time. Most of us associate certain foods with particular events, people or traditions. Foods that remind us of home or family are often a comfort.

Many of us have family recipes that have been passed down for generations. Memories and stories are often lost from one generation to the next. Recipe scrapbooks not only preserve the recipe itself, but also the tips and heart-felt stories that accompany them.

Gathering Recipes
Gathering the recipes and memories from family members is the biggest task in creating a heritage recipe album. Send out a letter or email asking them for several of their favorite family recipes. Have them include thoughts and memories about each recipe.

Include a list of questions to get the information you would like for each recipe. You may want to note that the person shouldn’t feel obligated to answer every question for each recipe. Hopefully some will spark some great memories. Ask them to include a photo of an occasion where that recipe was served. Here are some possible questions:

Whose recipe is this?
Who in your family makes this most often, or is most strongly associated with this recipe?
Where did the recipe come from?
Whose favorite recipe is this and why?
Are there any memorable stories associated with this recipe?
Are there any special tips or suggestions in preparing this recipe?
Is there a special secret ingredient for this recipe?
Is there a certain time of year your family enjoys this recipe?
Was this recipe served at a memorable occasion or event?

Scrapbook Layout Suggestions
Now that you have gathered all your recipes and information, it’s time to start the album. Here are a few things to consider before you start laying out pages.
Choose your album size and type
Make a list of recipe categories you want to include
Divide the recipes into the proper categories
Choose a color, pattern or some way to distinguish each category

You are ready to begin your recipe album. Some suggested pages may include:

Title page – This may include the name of the family the recipes are from.
Dedication page – This is a great place to describe the person or family and why the album was created.
Table of contents – List each category of food included in the book, ei:Entrees, side dishes, salads and desserts.
Subtitle page – List each recipe included in that category.
Recipe page – For larger albums (12 X 12) a single page per recipe may work. For smaller albums (8 X 8) a two page spread may work better. Use photo corners to attach recipe card
Include a photo of people or event where recipe was served
Include information from questions sent out

Scrapbooking recipes is a fun creative way to preserve many treasured family traditions. A digital album is a great option that would allow those traditions to be shared with everyone in the family.

Summer Dinner Recipes – 5 Budget Meal Planning Ideas for June

When the weather heats up, the last thing you want is to be spending hours in a hot kitchen! But with a little meal planning, you can produce an array of inspiring summer dinner recipes, as well as summer picnic recipes, summer dessert recipes and healthy breakfast recipes.

Make the most of simple chicken recipes

Instead of roasting one chicken, do two oven baked whole chickens at the same time – one lot of washing up, but a number of chicken leftover meals. This month, the chicken is roasted with a garlic, orange and rosemary rub. This can be oven roasted or cooked on the barbecue. There are three great recipes for leftovers: an updated version of Chicken a la King, with roasted red bell peppers and toasted almonds or a Chicken and Pasta Bake. Then there is a delectable Phyllo Triangles recipe filled with chicken and nuts. Still in barbecue mode, there is a great Chicken Kebabs Recipe.

Give Vegetable Salad Recipes a new spin

Get creative with salads and fresh seasonal produce. There are two spinach salad recipes: one a Spinach Salad with Feta, Beetroot and Toasted Almonds (with Basil Dressing) and the other is a Warm Spinach Salad with Slivered Lamb and Roasted Butternut. You need very little lamb steak for this recipe. Similarly, you need a small amount of steak for the refreshing Beef Stir Fry Recipe – the bulk of the recipe is made up with healthy vegetables, so it is light and nutritious.

Start the day with Healthy Breakfast Recipes

Start your day with a Raspberry Smoothie Recipe or a Corn Muffin Recipe (this is also great with a barbecue). For a more decadent breakfast, you could serve Lemon Poppy Seed Muffins.

Have some Summer Picnic Recipes up your sleeve

Again, Corn Muffins are ideal for a picnic. And what about Baked Scottish Eggs or Chicken Liver Pate? A Roast Vegetable Quiche or Meatball Sub Recipe? All are easily transported and make a change from the usual sandwiches.

Summer Dessert Recipes

What would summer be without ice-cream? And more specifically ice-cream by way of Cassata Cake? You can make the most of summer berries by incorporating raspberries in the Easy Apple Crisp Recipe. And, of course, there is an easy Fruit Salad Recipe.

You can download your free meal plans and recipes at June Meal Planning. Save money, time and your sanity!
