The Scottish Highlands in Scotland, is an area that has long been established in most people’s mind as a dreamland which gives a romantic feel. It was in the photographic era that the Highlands region got it’s fame through scenic photographs and post cards. The Highlands refers to that part of Scotland north-west of the Highland Boundary Fault, which crosses mainland Scotland in a near-straight line from Helensburgh to Stonehaven. Inverness is traditionally regarded as the capital of the Highlands.

Aberdeen could be considered the largest city in the Highlands. The area is generally sparsely populated, with many mountain ranges dominating the region, and includes the highest mountain in the British Isles, Ben Nevis. This part of Scotland is largely composed of ancient rocks from the Cambrian and Precambrian periods which were uplifted during the later Caledonian Orogeny. The Scotch Whisky industry gives a much more clear defenition on Scottish Highlands. Highland Single Malts are produced at distilleries north of an imaginary line between Dundee and Greenock, thus including all of Aberdeenshire and Angus into Highlands.

Scottish Highlands consists of many areas such as Aberdeenshire, Angus, Argyll and Bute, Moray, Perth and Kinross, and Stirling. Although the Isle of Arran administratively belongs to North Ayrshire, its northern part is generally regarded as part of the Highlands.

Scottish Highlands offer many attractions for its visitors. The Highlands Cashiers Premier Destination Fine Art Gallery which represents established and emerging artists specializes in large format art. The Whiteside Mountain attracts many expert rock climbers to the region. It offers some of the highest cliffs in the east, rising more than 2,100 feet to its summit at 4,930 feet.
